Module 2 - Analyzing and Designing a Web Site
Web Site Design
In Module 1 we talked about web site design as the process of designing the site on paper using the storyboard method. The storyboard is very effective in giving yourself and others a visual representation of what the site pages will look like, and then evaluating if the design is solid, or if it needs to be modified based on what you find out during the Analysis step. The storyboard is one of several design drawings and documents you should complete during this step:
- A web site structure map that lists all the pages and their relationship to one another (this resembles an organization chart).
- The web site file structure should be designed – this includes what the folders and filenames will be and where each file will reside.
- A storyboard sketch for each page.
- The design of the navigation system should be worked out.
- Creation and categorization of the content.
- Evaluation of any copyrighted content you would like to use.
By looking at these areas carefully, you can design a well developed and thought out site. Click on the topics at the left to explore them in more detail.
