Module 2 - Analyzing and Designing a Web Site
Web Site Analysis
In Module 1 we discussed the ADDIE Model of Design – which is basically a process we can follow to develop our web site. The advantage of the ADDIE model is that it can help us create the best product with the most efficient use of the time we have available. This is achieved mainly through careful Analysis, Design and Evaluation at the beginning of the project before the more time consuming phase of Development even begins.
What do we mean when we talk about Web Site Analysis? Well, here are several areas that you want to consider during the Analysis step:
- Define the mission of the web site (what are the goals of the web site – what do you want it to achieve?).
- Define the audience for the site (who is the site aimed at and what are their needs from your site?).
- Determine the type of content you want to include (text, images, sounds, etc.).
- Determine the criteria you will use to evaluate the site (the Web Site Peer Review form is a good start for this step).
- Evaluate your skills and resources (how much time do you have to work on this project and develop your skills?).
- Consider the maintenance requirements of the site after it is published (will the site need to be updated? If so, who will do it and on what schedule?).
