Brain did some further investigation of the competition LPA
model, which was the focus of my dissertation. I had focused on raising
interspecific competition simultaneously in each species; Brian looked
at the effect of varying the effect on each species.
This graph shows the outcome as predicted by the model for
different initial conditions. Initial conditions in white result
in the eventual extinction of species 2, those in blue result in the
eventual extinction of species 1, and the red points will lead to
coexistence of the two species. The vertical axis shows the difference
between the strength of the effect of interspecific competition on each
species.
