CPSC 370K Web Server Applications
Mary Washington College
Web Site Course Project - Requirements
Students will be divided into teams of 2 or 3 students. The goal of each team will be to create a Web presence for some organization. Each teams site must include examples of concepts from chapters 4 anf following of the textbook. These concepts are:
- XHTML
- CSS
- Scripting
- Shopping Cart
- Database Applications
- Tailoring the Site
- Building Community
Examples will be provided in the chapters, however each team is encouraged to conduct additional research to think of new and creative ways to incorporate the items into their site.
This project is expected to require a significant time commitment from each team member. All team members MUST contribute to the technical development (ie. programming) involved in the site creation (in other words, no one is allowed to have selecting the color scheme and scheduling meetings as their sole contributions to the project). Group members participation will be evaluated through the weekly status reports (explained below) and by peer evaluations (conducted periodically). The course is expected to provide all students with valuable teamwork experience.
The Honor Code applies to group projects. Each group should complete the programming project without assistance from members of other groups or students from other courses.
The content of the groups site will be evaluated twice during the semester:
- Mid-semester progress check - May 25
- Final versions are due on - Thursday, June 16
Due May 23, May 26, May 31, June 2, June 6, June 9:
Status report
Each group is expected to have at least one group meeting per week during the session to share ideas, collaborate and keep track of progress. One group member should be selected as the secretary for each week. The secretary should be a rotating position. The secretary will create a 1-2 page status report to be turned in (via email) on the dates lsited above. The status report should include:
- Milestones and progress achieved during the week
- Summary of the plan for the upcoming week
- 1-2 sentences outlining what each individual group member is working on
- List of references consulted
The status report should be sent via email to ernie@paprika.umw.edu and should also be carbon copied to all group members.
Criteria for Project Evaluation (project = 30% of course grade)
- Mid-semester progress check: 9%
- Final site: 21%
In addition you will receive credit for summaries submitted as well as peer evaluations that will affect your class participation grade.
